(romanized: Shkola), or School, is a Russian TV series that asks the question: "What exactly is going on in the Russian school?" It aired on Russia's Channel One from January 11 to May 27, 2010, with a 2-week break during the Vancouver Olympics. It has 69 episodes and was directed by Valeriya Gai Germanika¹.

Premise: 9 "A" was an exemplary class, while their class teacher was Nosov Anatoly Germanovich - a strong and experienced teacher, recognized in 2009 as the Teacher of the Year. After his sudden illness, 9 "A" is left without a strong hand. The myth of the exemplary class is crumbling, discipline is cracking at the seams. Nosov's granddaughter, Anya Nosova, is perhaps the most difficult teenager of the school. A new student Ilya Epifanov provokes situations in which students manifest themselves from unexpected sides, turning upside down the usual idea of them as classmates and teachers. None of the teachers want to take on the class, which of the model has become the most difficult.

Valeriya Gai Germanika describes Shkola like this:
"Shkola — it is the series about the whole world, about children, parents, teachers, maturing, and loneliness. It is about the closed world that others can't access. It is about the impossibility to speak with other people."

Actress Elena Papanova describes Shkola as "a work about school as it is now — without the embellishments; with its pros and cons. There are no embellishments in this series."

  • Anya Nosova (Valentina Lukashchuk)

She is the type of person who stands up for herself and wants to express herself. She loves emo music like Origami (a Ukrainian band)...because she's emo lol. Tokio Hotel is her most favorite band, and Monsoon is her favorite song from Tokio Hotel. Her goal while at school was to stand out while fitting in among her classmates at the same time. Anya is a troubled teenager who doesn't seem to care what anyone thinks and just flips people off (aka gives them the middle finger), but deep down she is really insecure.
Anya's backstory is revealed in the final episode ->
Anya's grandfather is Anatoly Germanovich Nosov, aka Russia's Teacher of the Year in 2009. After her grandpa gets a stroke, she starts going to school after being homeschooled for 2 years. From the moment Anya meets Ilya Epifanov, she develops a crush on him. Before Anya even sets foot in her school, she completely changes her appearance from being basic to being emo. At first, Anya loved going to school SOOOOO much.
Later in the series, Those are the first events that start Anya's downfall. She makes friends with emo girls Kolyuchka and Melania in episode 27 and eventually hangs out with other emos. A lot else happens, but I don't wanna say anything else here lol. From the outside, her situation seems like she could get over it SO EASILY, but she has a lot of struggles. At the end of episode 53 she tells Vera, "I get bullied every single day and I'm fine! At least it doesn't hurt as bad as the next time." she was NOT FINE LOLLLLLL. Anya is shown to be a genuinely kind person through her friendship with Vera in some of the later episodes. She's my favorite character...
Anya is a tragic character, and the rest of her classmates go on with their lives after like nothing happened; like Anya never came back to their school at all.

  • Ilya Epifanov (Alexey Litvinenko)
    ilya
Ilya can be described as the...catalyst, I guess, because his presence in 9A sets a lot of things in motion. In the beginning of the series, he's shown as a manipulator and scammer who doesn't care about anyone. Ilya's rude and makes smart comments, but he isn't really mean. That's exactly why Anya likes him lol. He transferred schools at the start of the 3rd marking period (January) because he apparently got a girl pregnant AND almost beat up someone to death.
The reason why Ilya scammed people in the first episodes is because He's cool, clever, and has a dark sense of humor. He doesn't like talking about his personal life, and usually when people ask about it, he dodges their question and changes the subject. Ilya has no father, and his father most likely left him and his mother. Ilya also has a crush on Olya for the entire series, but Olya doesn't like him back in that way. #UnrequitedLove :(

  • Olya Budilova (Anna Shepeleva)
    budilova
She is the most popular and beautiful girl in school. Olya's favorite musician is Beyonce, and her personality is like those popular girls who have multiple ex-boyfriends and wear flashy makeup/clothes/accessories almost every day. Olya's mother is somewhat like that too--though her mom had her at 16-17, so she doesn't really have control over Olya's life. Olya's mom isn't neglectful, but she lets Olya do whatever. Olya's parents are divorced and her dad left. Olya hates her father for leaving her family and doesn't forgive him. Almost all the boys like Olya and hang out with her. Olya also hangs out with her best friend Dasha, who .
The main problem Olya has in the series aside from her family situation is that she gets pregnant from when she dated Shutov. In later episodes, Olya
    I love Olya's style/aesthetic/whatever. I don't like HER though. She's materialistic and usually shallow -_-

  • Dasha Kharitonova (Larisa Nabatova)
    dasha before burns
    dasha post-vacation
In the beginning of the series, Dasha was best friends with Olya. However, Dasha was overshadowed by Olya's looks and popularity. Dasha looked like a plain and basic quiet girl compared to Olya.
  • Mikhail Dyatlov (Konstantin Poyarkin), - misha dyatlov. okay. He has been friends with Anya since childhood, and he had a crush on Nosova.
  • Irina Shishkova (Natalia Tereshkova), - she was best friends with vera. she....
  • Vera Akhmametyeva (Darya Rusakova),
  • Vadim Isaev (Alexey Maslodudov) - He has a dysfunctional family life and doesn't do well in school. Vadim's dad is an alcoholic who sometimes beats him and his younger brother Fyodor/Fedya up...and his mom works 2 jobs to support their family. Vadim is best friends with Sergey. Vadim was also friends with Timur, but their friendship ended after Vadim insulted Timur's mom by calling her a thief. The geography teacher influenced Vadim by asking + telling him about nationalist views. In episode 17, Vadim shaves his hair and actually starts becoming a skinhead. Vadim's personality is not the best. Though he cares about his brother, he bullied some people in his class like Nosova or Kashtanskaya. He didn't actually join the skinhead subculture until later in the series.

  • Dmitri Goryaev (Sergey Ovchinnikov),
  • Sergey Korolev (Sergei Belov),
  • Sonya Kashtanskaya (Nadezhda Ivanova),
  • Kostya Glushakov (Vitaly Laptev),
  • Timur Zadoyev (Mikhail Isakhanov) - Timur is a Dagestani immigrant, but the show doesn't say what country he's from. He's Muslim btw; he says that in the last episode. Uhh wip lol
  • Vladimir Falikov (Anton Chechevichkin) - He dresses in a contemporary and unique fashion style. His classmates jokingly insult him and say he's gay lol. When Natalia Nikolaevna criticizes Vova for being "fancy" and "bisexual," Vova corrects her and says he's Asexual, not BIsexual. He has AUDIODRUGS that he tries to get his classmates on. Ilya, Olya, and his other classmates think his audiodrugs are a load of crap though. Vova is one of the popular kids of 9A. At the trip to Suzdal, he gets beaten at a club for wanting to change the music the DJ played there.
  • Masha Tsybina (Natalia Borisova),
  • Lana Vinogradova (Svetlana Fomina),
  • Ani Hovsepyan (Ani Hovsepyan),
  • Alexey Shutov #hasjealousyissues (Igor Ogurtsov) - known as Lyosha in the series
  • Thorn/Barb/Barbed wire [Kolyuchka] - real name Lyudmila (Yulia Aleksandrova),
  • Melania - real name Tatiana (Tatyana Shevchenko),
  • Natalia Nikolaevna Orlova (physics teacher; new 9A teacher after Murzenko),
  • Valentina Kharitonovna Murzenko (class 9A teacher after Nosov, then interim principal from ep.32),
  • Arseny Ivanovich Degtyarev (chemistry teacher),

  • Alexey Nikolaevich Motylyov (Gennady Podshivalov) - After Nosov got a stroke, Alexey Nikolaevich became the new principal and history teacher of the students in 9A. He noticed that after Nosov left, 9A became worse and worse, but he chose not to do anything about 9A's problems. He was unfair and wanted 9A's other teachers to deal with thier issues, not him because he has "enough work". He ended up getting fired after .
  • Oleg Semenovich Privolnov (geography teacher who has nationalist views),
  • Yuri Nikolaevich Ivanov (became the new history teacher),
  • Helena Grigoryevna Krymova (english teacher),
  • Svetlana Viktorovna (secretary),
  • Sofya Andreevna Schwartzfeld (math teacher w red hair),
  • Zoya Ivanovna Grinko (Tatyana Titova) - She's the PE teacher. Idk what to say about her personality because in Shkola (2010), the students' PE classes are only shown in ~3 episodes, which means she only appears in those episodes. -_-

Where can I watch Shkola?

right now you can watch it for free on youtube. if you search it up, you can find a lot of playlists/videos with the full show. for example, there's a version in HD, but it's all in RUSSIAN, its original language. THIS is the best playlist for watching shkola 2010 though (in my opinion)

Where can I watch it with English subtitles?

you can watch episodes 1-14 with english subtitles on YOUTUBE. if you need episodes 15 and onward with english sub, you can just use youtube's auto-translate subs (even though they don't translate everything), or go on TELEGRAM. they are currently translating episode 48, finished EPISODE 47. btw thank you so much to michel for translating most of the episodes. thank you. this means a lot to me. SOMETIMES there are volunteers who help with the subs, but they are mentioned in the credits on the translated eng sub. support michel here

Why did I make this shrine? Why should YOU watch Shkola?

i've been into shkola since 2/1/2026 and it all went down from there....i was captivated by the reality of the series. at first when i watched it, i thought of it as a documentary and i kept thinking, "this could 100% happen in real life!" this is a SHOW though, not a documentary. the unstable, shaky camera angles made the show look realistic too. anyway, i wanted to dedicate a part of my website to shkola 2010 because of what i got from the series. i watched shkola in 8th grade while i was months away from high school. i have heard of and been told about the bad parts of high school: bullying, drinking, smoking, drugs, fights, underage sex, drama, etc. in school 2010, those aren't presented as the main problem. the main problem is the lack of communication. i've noticed that while watching the show, and that lack of communication creates problems for the teachers and students. obviously high school and general and the high school in shkola has its pros, though in shkola the pros are overshadowed by the cons. this show might not seem like it could be a favorite show because it's meant to spread awareness about the negative high school experience, but it's one of my favorite shows. it's a cult classic. valeriya gai germanika made a show about a russian school in 2010, but anyone can relate to it. your school may not be a dunpster fire like the school in shkola 2010, but it most likely has its problems too. what happens in shkola (2010) can be applied to wherever you are in the world, and even today in 2026.

PS: if you're under 14, DON'T WATCH THIS SHOW! it is meant for mature audiences only
extra links i found, interviews, behind the scenes, image gallery, etc!!
almost all of these are in Russian, so you should use a screen reader/translator!!! maybe it's just me because i don't speak Russian AT ALL.
I did my research. trust me..

Кино-Театр.РУ (Kino-Teatr.RU) - school 2010 EPISODE GUIDE; episode recap of ALL episodes; gives the main events that happened. you can translate it to english or to your native language. it's better to watch the show though because there are more things that happen in each episode. this helps me after watching some episodes because a lot happens. you have to watch all episodes btw. 69 episodes.....

EPISODE 42: 4/8/2026
This episode was...something. In the end, I felt bad for Nosova. Her grandparents got her the clothes she wanted after all. I read one of the comments on YouTube about this episode..."This is where the turning point in Nosova's life begins. It doesn't seem all that unusual; I even missed it the first time I watched it, but from the vantage point of the remaining episodes, it's clear that it was after Arseny Ivanovich and her best friends turned their backs on her and the ambiguous scene with her grandparents that something changed inside Anya. This is what will lead us to the finale." Honestly, I knew something was different about this episode, and I felt more bad for Nosova. Episode 42 really IS the turning point. I can't wait to watch Episode 43!! I could watch it now, but it's past midnight (12:12 AM). I think it's better if I go to sleep.... -_-
On second thought, I'm on SPRING BREAK!!! I'll watch the remaining episodes with English sub on Telegram
I genuinely feel bad for Nosova, even though she is rude to her grandparents. Her new best friends, the people she thought understood her the most, are backstabbing her; Misha's past behavior is overlooked and in the past now (what if he stalks Anya more?); she has a weird relationship with her chemistry teacher; and for 2 years she was forcibly homeschooled by her grandparents, only for her to have her reputation ruined and to not want to go to school. The final scene where she cries....maybe she cries because she realizes her grandparents love her idk. I wonder what will happen in the next episode.
